Obama deserved to get treated like this because he's a jerk and as such not qualified to lead - and the only way he can begin to earn real trust is to change his policy and go for victory in the Middle East.

Worth noting is that what McChrystal did was not insubordination and in fact reflects poorly on the pundit class.
